LEGO WeDo 2.0

We live in the digital age and nowadays most of our activity takes place in virtual environments, and we increasingly rely on new technologies. That is why we cannot be left behind in education.

The new robotics project with LEGO WeDo 2.0 that we are launching fosters valuable learning that helps us to develop computational thinking in our students. Computational thinking involves solving problems, designing systems and understanding human behaviour, using the fundamental concepts of computer science. In other words, the essence of computational thinking is to think as a computer scientist would when faced with a problem.

In addition to developing computational thinking, LEGO WeDo 2.0 encourages the development of other cognitive skills:

  • It encourages socialisation and collaboration as projects are carried out in teams.
  • It prepares our students for the challenges of today’s society.
  • It stimulates creativity and imagination.
  • It encourages entrepreneurship.
  • It motivates students to acquire scientific and mathematical knowledge.

The material we are going to use consists of Lego bricks and motors that add rotational and/or translational movement and two types of sensors (distance and inclination) that allow these components to interact with the physical world.

The development of a project consists of 3 phases: Design, construction and programming. For this last phase, tablets will be used which, connected via Bluetooth, will send orders to the design to make it move.
