The Internet has its advantages, many of them, but it also has its risks. In the first years of the 1×1 project, we take special care to ensure that students learn to surf the net intelligently and safely.
To this end, in both 5th and 6th grades, the Basque police (ertzaintza) visit us to give us talks about safety when surfing the Internet and cyberbullying. At the same time, the teachers also teach notions of cybersecurity both in tutoring hours (Interland: be cool on the internet!), as well as taking advantage of moments in the other subjects.
This year we have implemented the Blocksi application in the courses that are part of the 1×1 project. This application provides us with dynamic category-based filtering of Web and Youtube content that allows teachers to enforce the class based approach, so that only meaningful and relevant Internet content is available to the students.
All of this allows us to train our students to be digital citizens of the 21st century.
